Barre Gentillot Vieilles Vignes 2021 – Graves de Vayres
Since its founding in 1750, Château Barre Gentillot has been a proud representative of the Graves de Vayres appellation, the second oldest in Bordeaux. The estate’s commitment to sustainability is evidenced by its HVE 3 certification and its agro-ecological approach to winemaking. Located near Saint Emilion, the estate’s terroir comprises clay, gravel, and boulbène soils, offering ideal conditions for the production of high-quality Bordeaux wines.
The Vieilles Vignes cuvée, made from a blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, is sourced from the estate’s older vines. It presents a brilliant garnet hue and a beautifully aromatic bouquet of red fruits, enhanced by subtle notes of vanilla. On the palate, this wine delivers a soft, round mouthfeel with a pleasant echo of the fruity bouquet.
Traditional vinification is conducted in temperature-controlled concrete tanks, followed by 12 months of aging in 225-liter oak barrels. This careful process highlights the wine’s refined tannins and complex flavor profile, making it a true reflection of the exceptional Graves de Vayres terroir.
Pairing Information:
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted meats such as beef, lamb, or pork. Its fruity and balanced profile also makes it an excellent match for rich pasta dishes or mushroom-based recipes. For cheese lovers, it pairs well with semi-hard cheeses like Gouda or Cheddar.
